Duran Duran have offered up their cover of the Electric Light Orchestra classic “Evil Woman,” an inclusion on the forthcoming deluxe edition of Danse Macabre arriving Friday (October 11th).
Singer Simon Le Bon and company deliver a snappy and uptempo rendition, adding their own stylistic signatures with a disco beat, funky guitar strums, and cutting synth lines. Meanwhile, Le Bon hits the song’s demanding melodies with ease.
The cover will surely be a crowd pleaser if Duran Duran decide to bust it out during their upcoming run of October gigs. The outing kicks off October 21st in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and will be highlighted by a special Halloween show at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Get tickets here.
As for the deluxe edition of the Halloween-themed Danse Macabre — a collection of re-imagined originals, new songs, and covers — Duran Duran have added seven additional tracks to the collection, including the cover of “Evil Woman” and a re-imagined take on “New Moon on Monday.”
“This year, the inspiration was somehow still lingering,” commented keyboardist Nick Rhodes in a press release, “and I loved the idea of expanding the collection, because we could… Why not add some of the songs that we considered initially now that we had the luxury of a little more time? This thought resulted in another new song, a cover of the ELO classic, ‘Evil Woman,’ and a remake of ‘New Moon on Monday.'”
