Dwayne Johnson: Feud With Tyrese Over ‘Fast & Furious’ Spinoff Is ‘One-Sided’
While promoting his latest film, “Skyscraper,” Dwayne Johnson said he and his “Fast & Furious” co-star Tyrese Gibson haven’t spoken since Gibson accused Johnson of trying to make the long-running car action franchise about himself.
“That whole thing with Tyrese, it was pretty disappointing because I had been friends with Tyrese for a very long time,” Johnson told a caller while appearing on Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen.”
“I always feel like a beef requires two people to actually jump in it, and it was pretty one-sided, and he had voiced his opinion a lot on social media,” Johnson continued. “Apparently, he was going through some stuff, too, in his personal life. But, no, we haven’t talked and I don’t see where we would and, to me, there’s no need to have a conversation.”

The feud began in September 2017 when it was announced that Johnson would star alongside Jason Statham in a spinoff of the “F&F” series called “Hobbs & Shaw,” which sees the former bitter enemies continue their new unlikely partnership. David Leitch (“Deadpool 2”) will direct the film with a planned July 2019 release.
But Gibson was not pleased at Universal’s decision to build a spinoff around Johnson and Statham, who were later additions to the franchise’s cast that originally consisted of him, Vin Diesel, Ludacris, Michelle Rodriguez, and the late Paul Walker. Gibson attacked Johnson on social media, even threatening to leave the series if the spinoff was greenlit.

“Fast & Furious 9,” meanwhile, has been pushed back to a 2020 release, with Justin Lin returning to the franchise to direct.
