All About Dwight Yoakam's Son Dalton Loren
The country crooner and his wife, Emily Joyce, welcomed their son Dalton in 2020
Dwight Yoakam and Emily Joyce love their little family of three. The couple welcomed their first child together, son Dalton Loren Yoakam, on Aug. 16, 2020.
While the country singer keeps much of his personal life out of the spotlight, he and Joyce go way back. They started dating in 2010 before Dwight popped the question some years later. After enjoying a long engagement, the pair exchanged vows in front of a very small group of family and friends at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020. However, in the wake of the pandemic, they waited several months before sharing the happy news and, consequently, the birth of their son later that summer.
"The happy couple have been engaged for several years and have been dating since 2010. This belated announcement was withheld out of respect to so many people affected by and on the front lines of this pandemic," read a statement from the pair's rep.
Aside from a rare glimpse here and there, Dwight keeps much of Dalton off social media. Here’s everything to know about Dwight Yoakam and wife Emily Joyce’s son, Dalton Loren Yoakam.
Emily was pregnant with Dalton at their wedding
The couple had a very important, secret guest at their intimate wedding unbeknownst to guests: their son! They tied the knot in a private ceremony in Santa Monica — just five months before Joyce gave birth to their first child.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the attendee list was limited to less than 10 guests stationed six feet apart. Nevertheless, that didn’t stop Dwight and Joyce from saying “I do,” with baby Dalton also there in spirit.
"Dwight Yoakam and Emily Joyce wed in March just before the quarantine in a private ceremony at St. Monica Catholic Church in Santa Monica," a rep for Dwight confirmed in a statement. "At a time when there is so much uncertainty in the world, there are still happy moments."
"In the face of shutdowns and social-distancing requirements, love prevailed, and the less than 10 attendees were seated at least six feet from one another," per the statement.
He was born in 2020
Dwight and Joyce welcomed Dalton on Aug. 16, 2020, at 9:19 a.m. The country singer’s team announced the exciting news on Instagram alongside a pair of photos of the beaming couple moments before they became a family of three. One selfie snapped by Joyce shows Dwight cradling his wife’s belly while gazing into her eyes.
"Like the lyric from the song Waterfall that Dwight wrote for Emily on his 3 Pears album says ... Babies get born even in a ... Pandemic lock down ...," the statement read. "With great joy and happiness Dwight & Emily announce the birth this past Sunday of their new baby boy."
His middle name is an ode to Dwight’s father
Dalton has a sweet connection to his grandfather. In a Father’s Day post, Dwight revealed that he had bestowed his father’s middle name onto his son.
“Happy Father’s Day… to all the ‘Daddies’ everywhere! I carry the memories of my Father David Loren Yoakam with deep love and affection. I think of him often as I watch our little guy Dalton who shares his middle name Loren in honor of his memory,” he wrote on Facebook in 2023.
His parents have kept him out of the spotlight
Not one for the spotlight himself, Dwight has kept Dalton out of the public eye since his birth. The majority of the “Ain’t That Lonely Yet” singer’s Instagram consists of promotional posts about his radio show on Sirius XM and his music. In fact, Dwight rarely shares photos of him and Joyce on social media either.
