After purposely presenting a lame case at Stefan’s hearing so his brother would land in the slammer on Days of our Lives, E.J. also screwed over Brady, Theresa, and Tate at his supposed “public apology” in the April 15 episode.

He Tried to Pull a Fast One at Stefan’s hearing

As E.J. (Dan Feuerriegel) was preparing to begrudgingly give his apology to Tate (Leo Howard) and his family at a morning press conference, he was surprised when he got a call to appear at Stefan’s (Brandon Barash) hearing, which had been moved up. He muttered to himself that he planned to deliver a weak argument so the judge would reject his plea agreement.

Meanwhile, despite Stefan’s finances being in flux because his access to DiMera funds is temporarily on hold, Sloan (Jessica Serfaty) agreed to defend him but told him her fee will be doubled on the backend. Stefan didn’t trust his brother, who previously refused to help him when he was forced to engage in drug dealing.

At the police station, E.J. visited Stefan and was doubly surprised that his brother lawyered up. Stefan reminded him of the terms of their agreement: E.J. got to brag that he saved Salem a costly trial by creating the plea deal, and Stefan got the recommended sentence of time served. Stefan wanted his funds back when he gets out, but E.J. scoffed at the notion of him going home.

At the hearing, E.J. referenced the drug epidemic to the judge, arguing that Stefan’s testimony against Clyde (James Read) had dampened the drug trade and argued that time served was the best sentence. The judge thought he was joking, calling it nepotism, and she was appalled that he would ask for such a lenient sentence. She stated that the plea didn’t support the interest of the public and didn’t sufficiently address the nature of the offense.

Sloan presented an affidavit from the Attorney General’s office that included a breakdown of all the cases resulting from the information provided by Stefan about Clyde’s drug operation, which resulted in the seizing of narcotics, thereby making Salem safer. She also pointed out that Stefan was under duress by Clyde, whose minions assaulted his wife, Gabi, in prison, and that his testimony would add years to Clyde’s sentence once he was recaptured. She asked the judge to ponder whether the time served was reasonable, considering what Stefan had done to make amends. (Learn more about Clyde’s nefarious ways here.)

In the interest of justice, the judge took Sloan’s info under advisement and would let them know her decision at a later time, so it was back to the Hoosegow for Stefan.

Angry with E.J. for purposely presenting a weak argument so the judge would throw his case out, Stefan reminded his brother that he had another copy of his confession. E.J. retaliated by threatening to reveal Stefan was the one who shot Harris (Steve Burton), and told him to go back to his cell “like a good little boy.” He argued that his blackmail trumped Stefan’s, and his brother agreed to give him all his assets. “See you in a few years, bro-ski,” he said.

E.J. Went on to Screw Over Brady, Tate, and Theresa

Later, at the press conference, Brady (Eric Martsolf), Theresa (Emily O’Brien), Tate, Holly, and Nicole showed up, only to find it had already started and E.J. was wrapping it up. An angry Brady asked, “What the hell was that?” (Learn more about why E.J. railroaded Tate in the first place.)

E.J. claimed the press was in attendance, but Brady pointed out it was just his PR lackey, and demanded a written copy of E.J.’s apology on his desk that day. With a smirk on his face, E.J. referred him to Bob, the PR guy. Nicole attempted to apologize on E.J.’s behalf, stating that she didn’t know he was going to pull a stunt like that. Unhappy, Theresa mocked “poor E.J.,” and the family exited.
