E3 trailers: Ubisoft previews new Mario , Assassin's Creed , South Park titles
Nintendo
Ubisoft kicked off its E3 conference with the industry's worst-kept secret, the leaked Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, but it did surprise with a special guest, Mario mastermind Shigeru Miyamoto, who goofed around with Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot.
The company showed a lot of sequels to its mega-popular franchises like Assassin's Creed and Far Cry and even some of its less popular ones (The Crew 2), but it managed to really shock the audience with a gorgeous cinematic announcement trailer for Beyond Good and Evil 2, the long-delayed follow-up to the 2003 cult classic.
Here are some of the most notable trailers from the event.
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle (Aug. 29)
Raving Rabbids have invaded the Mushroom Kingdom, and Mario must team up with the good ones to take down the bad in this crossover action-RPG exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
Assassin's Creed Origins (Oct. 27)
We got our first look at yesterday's Xbox conference, but Ubisoft showed off more of the stunning locations you'll visit in Ancient Egypt. Of course there are pyramids!
Transference (2018)
Actor Elijah Wood's development company Spectrevision is collaborating with Ubisoft on this VR experience that straddles the line between movie and game.
Skull and Bones (TBD)
Assassin's Creed IV was the lone pirate entry in the franchise, and Ubisoft is building on that to create an entirely new series based on the pirate life.
South Park: The Fractured But Whole (Oct. 17)
Ubisoft's second game based on the hit series looks as filthy and profanely hilarious as anything on the show.
Far Cry 5 (Feb. 27, 2018)
Oh say can you see, Far Cry is coming to America. You'll take on a fundamentalist religious cult in fictional Hope County, Montana in a game that will surely generate zero controversy whatsoever.
Beyond Good and Evil 2 (Someday…)
We've waited years for this trailer, and we'll likely wait years to actually play the game. But damn, does it look good.
