Eddie Redmayne Says Warren Beatty Checked on Him After Hackers Emailed His Contacts Asking for Money
Warren Beatty, as Seth Meyers joked, is Eddie Redmayne’s “only good friend”
Eddie Redmayne has a friend in Warren Beatty.
On the Tuesday, June 11 episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers, Redmayne, 42, told a story about an email hacking that resulted in all of his contacts receiving a request for money.
“I was actually in New York at the time and I had had a big night the night before,” he told Meyers, 50, when asked about the online scam. “And I turned on my phone and I listened to this voicemail.”
He then recalled turning to his wife, Hannah Bagshawe, and saying, “I think Warren Beatty just left me a voicemail checking I’m okay and whether I need money.”
Beatty, 87, had apparently been concerned about his fellow Oscar winner’s well-being after what Redmayne called a “very persuasive email saying that I was stuck and needed” money or help.
“I was sort of hungover and trying to make sense of this thing,” recalled the Good Nurse star with a laugh.
“To Warren’s incredible, generous credit,” he added, “he was pretty much the only person who was kind enough to help, to bail me out! To this day, that man has a great place in my heart.”
Beatty, joked Meyers, must be Redmayne’s “only good friend.”

On Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused podcast in February, actor Jamie Dornan relayed the story, praising the Bonnie and Clyde star’s generosity.
"We all got emails saying, like, 'Guys, I'm up against it here. I need some cash,’ ” recalled the Fifty Shades star. "Fair credit, Warren Beatty was like, 'Whatever you need.' What a legend."
It was Dornan’s story that prompted Meyers to ask his guest about the incident. Confirming the email hack, Redmayne quipped that Dornan — his former roommate — also received the scam for money, “which, by the way, he didn’t send.”
Speaking with Meyers, Redmayne also delved into his Tony Award-nominated performance in Broadway's Cabaret revival at the August Wilson Theatre — including his post-show diet, which includes a freezer full of Ben & Jerry's ice cream. Opposite Gayle Rankin as Sally Bowles, he plays the infamous emcee of Berlin's Kit Kat Club.
