Elizabeth Banks on surrogacy: 'I definitely think I’m still judged'
Elizabeth Banks, director, star, co-writer and producer of "Charlie's Angels," revealed in a Porter Magazine cover story that she feels judged for having used a surrogate to bring her children into the world.
The 45-year-old actress has two sons with husband Max Handelman, Felix, 8, and Magnus, 7, who were both delivered via surrogate mother.
Banks explains to Porter that today there are public forums in which women can discuss reproductive issues, but that wasn't always the case.
“Women’s reproductive issues were things you would whisper about in small circles," she said.
In spite of the openness that there may be today, Banks said she doesn't think people understand her choices. "I definitely think I’m still judged for what I’ve done."
"But I don’t feel I owe anybody any explanation," Banks continued. "And, if my story helps people feel less alone on their journey, then I’m grateful for that."
Thank you for making this family with me @maxhandelman #happyfathersday
