Elizabeth Berkley Dazzles in Bejeweled Makeup Inspired by Her “Showgirls” Glam 28 Years After Film's Release

The actress paid homage to the 1995 classic film and Nomi Malone at a special screening in L.A.

Elizabeth Berkley pulled out all the glam stops to honor one of her most memorable film roles.

It’s been nearly three decades since the actress made an impact on silver screens as Las Vegas dancer Nomi Malone in Showgirls. And on Wednesday, she channeled the character again for a special screening of the campy 1995 erotic thriller at the Academy Museum in Los Angeles.

Thanks to hairstylist Clayton Hawkins, who styled Berkley's voluminous waves for the event, fans got a close-up look at her glittery eye makeup, which was a tribute to Nomi’s Viva Las Vegas glam.

In a photo shared to Hawkin’s Instagram, Berkley literally shines with a bejeweled smokey eye, complete with silver eyeshadow, wispy eyelashes and light-catching gemstones across her eyelids, done by makeup artist Kathleen Karridene, who was tagged in the post.

Karridene achieved a glowy base and glossy peachy lip to complete the star’s dazzling eyes.

Hawkins also included a photo of one of Nomi's makeup looks from the film, which seems to be where he pulled his inspiration from.

Berkley was styled in a tuxedo and white button-up with a popped collar, another nod to the movie.

In 2020, Berkley opened up to PEOPLE about how portraying Nomi affected her personal life. "It changed me," she shared. "It was a life moment, and I cannot help but say I would be a different person had I not gone through the depths of what it taught me."

When it first came out in the '90s, the film and Berkley faced criticism and disappointing box office numbers.

"Of course, it was disappointing that it didn't do well, but there was so much cruelty around it," she recalled to PEOPLE. "I was bullied. And I didn't understand why I was being blamed,” she said, adding that she had done everything she was “supposed to do.”

On Wednesday though, Berkley was met with 1,200 Showgirls fans and three standing ovations at the David Geffen Theater, per The Hollywood Reporter. 

During her introduction speech, Berkley said that Showgirls “really pushed the boundaries at that time that now have been embraced — not misunderstood but truly embraced. And I’m so grateful that the film has found its way not only in your hearts but especially the LGBTQ community,” per the outlet.

“You stood by the film,” she continued. “You always believed as did I and for that I’m eternally grateful.”
