Ellen DeGeneres's birthday bash could have been an epic fail thanks to a potentially awkward guest list
The Vanity Fair Oscar party has some serious competition, because Ellen DeGeneres’s 60th birthday bash Saturday night already seems like the soiree of 2018. The talk show host gathered some of Hollywood’s biggest stars in the same room, which can be as awkward as it is glamorous.
With a famous guest list comes some celebrities with romantic histories, complicated pasts, or public feuds. Here are four interactions we wish we could have witnessed.
Dakota Johnson, Chris Martin, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Brad Falchuk
Chris Martin and Dakota Johnson arrived to the party hand-in-hand, proving that they are no longer in hiding. The couple — who were first linked last fall — have certainly seemed comfortable with their romance in the new year. Also at the bash? The Coldplay singer’s ex-wife, Gwyneth Paltrow, and her fiancé, Brad Falchuk. We doubt this interaction was too uncomfortable, though. In fact, we wouldn’t be surprised if Paltrow has already spent time with the Fifty Shades Freed star. Martin and Paltrow have been consciously uncoupled for nearly four years, and the actress often talks about how they make their modern family work.
P!nk and Kim Kardashian
We know the reality star still considers the singer a “hater” because P!nk was on the receiving end of Kim’s new perfume a few weeks ago. The beef started back in 2016 when the singer slammed Kardashian for posting a nude selfie on International Women’s Day. “Shout out to all of the women, across the world, using their brains, their strength, their work ethic, their talent, their ‘magic’ that they were born with, that only they possess,” P!nk wrote on Twitter. “It may not ever bring you as much ‘attention’ or bank notes as using your body, your sex, your tits and asses, but women like you don’t need that kind of ‘attention.’” We wonder if Ellen was able to broker some peace between the two women.
Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Martin
Somehow (we think), Chris Martin beat out Leonardo DiCaprio for most exes in one room. Lawrence and the singer dated for about a year following his split with Paltrow. Jen and Chris were extremely private about their relationship, which ended in 2015, so it’s anyone’s guess how they feel about each other now. At the time, People reported that Lawrence got “tired of Chris being so noncommittal.” At least J.Law had pals like Adele, Amy Schumer, and Kim Kardashian there at the party in case she needed to hide out while the Coldplay frontman roamed the party with his new girlfriend.
Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Aniston
These two superstars handle their fame about as differently as you can get. The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star has made a career out of living her life so publicly, while the Friends star isn’t even on social media. Aniston has made some playful jabs at the KKW Beauty mogul. While appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2014, she dressed up in an inflatable bra, announcing that it was her “version of the Kim K.” Still, the actress has admitted that she does keep up with the Kardashians/Jenners, calling it her “guilty pleasure.” Hey, Kim didn’t include Jen on her list of “haters,” so perhaps she found the dress-up shtick pretty humorous. We’d still be curious to hear what these two talk about socially, though.
