Ellie Kemper and Conan O’Brien Compare Resting Bitch Faces

The ever-cheerful Ellie Kemper visited Conan on Tuesday. Ellie and her character on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt are known for an upbeat attitude and near-constant smile. However, Kemper explained that people are unsettled when they see her not smiling. She’s even been told that simply not smiling makes her look furious. So, she showed her resting face to Conan O'Brien, who said, “Yes, you look mad.”

O’Brien, the ever-goofy talk show host, said he gets a similar reaction. Even those around his office are not used to seeing him not smiling. He then showed off his resting face, which he described as simultaneously sad and constipated. O’Brien even acted out what it must be like for people who pull up next to him in his car. He stared into the camera with dead-eyes, not quite the jovial host to whom we’ve grown to laugh with.

Conan airs weeknights at 11 p.m. on TBS.
