Elton John Is Now an EGOT Winner, Shares Heartfelt Reaction: ‘I Am Incredibly Humbled’ and ‘Incredibly Grateful’
The prestigious EGOT club just got a new member: Elton John. The music icon officially became an EGOT winner at the 2023 Emmys when his Disney+ special, “Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium,” took home the award for outstanding variety special.
“I am incredibly humbled to be joining the unbelievably talented group of EGOT winners tonight,” John said in a statement. “The journey to this moment has been filled with passion, dedication, and the unwavering support of my fans all around the world. Tonight is a testament to the power of the arts and the joy that it brings to all our lives. Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout my career, I am incredibly grateful.”

John did not attend the Emmys ceremony as he was home due to a knee injury.
The Emmy was the final award John needed to secure his status as an EGOT winner. He previously won two Oscars for best original song thanks to “Rocketman” (“I’m Gonna Love Me Again”) and “The Lion King” (“Can You Feel the Love Tonight”), a Tony Award for best original score (“Aida”) and six Grammy Awards. Only 24 stars have achieved this Hollywood honor.
John’s EGOT win is his latest awards victory in a career packed with milestones. He is one of the top-selling solo artists of all time, and he holds the record for biggest-selling physical single of all time thanks to the 33 million copies sold for “Candle in the Wind 1997.” John’s greatest hits album “Diamonds” was released in 2017 and spent a staggering 300 consecutive weeks in the top 75 of the U.K. album charts.
The EGOT club also includes the likes of Whoopi Goldberg, Viola Davis, Jennifer Hudson, John Legend and more.
