Elton John Reveals He Has “Been Dealing With a Severe Eye Infection”

“I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye,” he explained. John then expressed his gratitude toward “the excellent team of doctors and nurses,” as well as his family, “who have taken such good care of [him] over the last several weeks.

“I have been quietly spending the summer recuperating at home and am feeling positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery thus far.”

This hasn’t been the only health struggle John has faced this year. He underwent knee replacement surgery in January. His husband David Furnish told The Sun back in March that John was “doing amazing,” with surgery scheduled for his other knee that same month. “By the time the summer rolls around, he’ll have two brand new spanking knees,” added Furnish.

Besides sharing his medical update, John recently announced that his documentary Elton John: Never Too Late is slated to premiere on Dec. 13 on Disney+. “This documentary is such a special journey through the memories, music and moments that have shaped my life,” he wrote on Instagram. Ahead of streaming, the film will get its world premiere at the 2024 Toronto Film Festival, which starts later this week. Never Too Late is said to feature “never-before-seen concert footage” of John over his 50-year career, as well as “hand-written journals and present-day footage of him and his family.”
