Elton John experienced a “severe” eye infection over the summer. The singer-songwriter took to Instagram, revealing to fans that the infection was so severe it limited his vision in one eye. “I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye,” he said.

He added: “I am so grateful for the excellent team of doctors and nurses and my family, who have taken such good care of me over the last several weeks. I have been quietly spending the summer recuperating at home, and am feeling positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery thus far.”

John had knee replacement surgery back in January, which caused him to miss his celebration as an EGOT winner after his Disney+ show Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium won an Emmy. Over the summer, he assisted President Biden at the opening of the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center in New York.

John will wrap 2024 with the Disney + bio-documentary Elton John: Never Too Late, directed by R.J. Cutler (responsible for the great Billie Eilish doc The World’s a Little Blurry) and his husband, David Furnish. The film is slated to premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival.
