'The Secret Life of Pets' ride coming to Universal Studios Hollywood in 2020
Universal Studios Hollywood has gone to the dogs — or it will, anyway, next year.
A new attraction, The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash, will open in 2020, the park announced Wednesday. Inspired by 2016’s The Secret Life of Pets and this summer’s upcoming sequel, the immersive ride will put guests in the role of puppies on a quest through New York — accompanied by the films’ heroes Max, Snowball, Gidget, Duke, and others, of course — to make it to a pet adoption event to find homes.
“The innovative adventure will blend live, dimensional, and animated characters with hyper-realistic media as guests zip along a track aboard ride vehicles through bustling New York City streets,” a press release promises. “Along the way, guests will face an array of challenges and meet up with fellow animal pals eager to help guide them toward their destination.”
The ride will be located alongside the “Minion Mayhem” attraction — inspired by the Despicable Me series, another Illumination Entertainment property like The Secret Life of Pets— so once guests have (hopefully!) been adopted as puppies on “Off the Leash,” they can go through full Minion training and explore Gru’s laboratory. Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks?
The Secret Life of Pets 2 hits theaters June 7. The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash will open at Universal Studios Hollywood in 2020.
