Anant Ambani, the son of Asia’s richest man, married Radhika Merchant in Mumbai on Friday. The lavish festivities have garnered worldwide attention, with celebrities including Kim Kardashian, Nick Jonas and John Cena attending the ceremony.

While extravagant jewels are to be expected at many Indian weddings, guests at Ambani and Merchant’s ceremony appeared to favor emeralds. The green gems are particularly significant in India, where they symbolize “prosperity, love and new beginnings,” Abhishek Soni, managing director of fine jewelry brand The House of MBj, told India Today. “This may drive people to choose them for weddings and special occasions,” he added.

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas both selected emerald accessories, with Chopra wearing a diamond Bulgari necklace featuring small emeralds and a large ruby pendant, and Jonas sporting a dragonfly brooch from Jewels by Dev adorned with an emerald center stone.

Zendaya’s stylist, Law Roach, wore a large square-cut emerald cocktail ring designed by Joseph Saidian & Sons. Set in platinum, the 12.7-carat stone is flanked by baguette and round cut diamonds.

Aishwarya Rai

Aishwarya Rai contrasted her red anarkali suit with emerald jewelry, including layered chokers and a maang tikka headpiece.

Alia Bhatt

Actress Alia Bhatt decked herself in a matching choker, earrings and maang tikka encrusted with both emeralds and diamonds.

Ambani’s wedding to his longtime girlfriend, Merchant, featured high-profile guests, including politicians and influential businesspeople like Mark Zuckerberg, Tony Blair and Bill Gates. Most attendees opted for traditional Indian dress, including sarees, sherwanis and lehengas, nodding to the couple’s shared culture.
