Emily Deschanel Admits “Some” Aspects of “Bones” Didn't Age Well as She Releases Rewatch Podcast with Carla Gallo (Exclusive)

The star of the beloved forensics series says that as she and her costar look back and dissect the episodes, there are a few things they apologize for: 'It was a different time!'

Emily Deschanel is taking a trip down memory lane with her Bones costar Carla Gallo.

The couple just announced that their Bones rewatch podcast Boneheads, produced by Lemonada Media, is finally airing on Sept. 19, and they say it's been endlessly fun to go back and revisit the show — though they've stumbled on a few things that they felt the need to apologize for.

"I would say it makes you reflect on how it was a different time," Deschanel tells PEOPLE of the forensics drama, which also starred David Boreanaz and ran from 2005 through 2017.

"There were some not-cool representations and some stereotypes, things to apologize for," she says. "But otherwise it is a total trip down memory lane."

Gallo notes that because she didn't come to the show as a regular until season 4, there are plenty of episodes that she never even saw until recently.

"I'm watching a lot of it for the first time," Gallo says. "So I'm reacting as a fan, trying to guess who the killer is. But the truth is, the podcast is basically a device for Emily and me to be able to hang out and chat and gossip. There's a lot of, 'Oh we need to get back to talking about the show.'"

Deschanel agrees. "That's the only challenge," she says laughing. "Carla and I are good friends. We met on the show and have become closer since, and we love chatting. We can't get off the phone. Now we have a podcast, and we're supposed to be talking business and we'll be chit-chatting for 45 minutes," she jokes.

Deschanel adds that they'll have plenty of guest stars on the show and they'll talk about some of the crazier behind-the-scenes moments — like how Gallo went back to work 11 days after having her first baby.

"We were crazy," Gallo admits of returning to work so soon. "I remember Emily was like, 'Here's what's going to happen. You're taking my trailer.' And she literally had a rocking chair moved to the trailer for me."

While they're busy revisiting the show, they're also loving that Bones is being discovered by new audiences, thanks to streaming.

"It kind of always had this loyal following," Deschanel says. "There's a group of people who will watch it over and over again and then rewatch from the beginning. So it's exciting that it has longevity and is still relevant after almost 20 years."

Any thoughts about rebooting the show?

"I'll do it today. I'm available!" jokes Gallo, who is currently filming season 2 of Platonic with Seth Rogan and Rose Byrne.

Deschanel says it's always a possibility. "I think I'd be interested in something like that. I mean, it's not something that I dream of necessarily. I feel like we told a lot of stories, so we'd have to have some fresh perspective on those people and those stories and those dynamics. That would be interesting to me. But I'm not holding my breath!"

She adds that's because it would mean Boreanaz would also have to be on board to come back.

"He would always say, 'I don't look back, I look forward or I'm in the moment,'" Deschanel says of her friend and former colleague. "But who knows? Never say never!"

Boneheads premiere Sept. 19.
