‘Emily in Paris’ Trailer Finds Emily in Rome, Not Paris

When “Emily in Paris” Season 4 returns in September, there will be a (temporary) location change.

The titular Emily (Lily Collins) will leave the titular Paris behind for a long-teased Roman adventure. Season 4 Part 1, which premiered in August, left Emily at a crossroads, with her new sometimes-boyfriend, chef Gabriel (Lucas Bravo), still tied up with his ex, Camille (Camille Razat), whom he thinks is having his baby.

In the trailer for Part 2, Emily is clear about needing some distance — and a work trip to Rome (with a new hot guy; this show always seems to have one of those at the ready) seems the perfect distraction. After all, her boss Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) cracks, “It’s not the first time you mix business with pleasure. You’re actually quite good at it!”

The trailer also shows Emily serving her best ski chalet looks, riding a moped, and meeting a new American co-worker who seems to already be posing problems. And that’s not even mentioning all of the still-unfolding romantic triangles!

Per Netflix’s official synopsis of Season 4, “Emily and Gabriel’s chemistry is undeniable as they work together towards a Michelin star [for his restaurant], but two big secrets threaten to undo everything they’ve dreamed of. As old patterns clash with new complications, Emily feels drawn to a potential new love interest… and a new city.”

While never a critical favorite, the Darren Star-created “Emily in Paris” is a massive hit for Netflix, and it’s no surprise the streamer broke Season 4 into two parts (even thought IndieWire is on record about how this trend needs to stop). The costumes are fabulous, and the locations — whether it be Paris or Rome — are dreamy. With love problems galore and a supporting cast that includes charming turns from Ashley Park and Leroy-Beaulieu, it’s easy to see why this mindless treat has continued to resonate.

In IndieWire’s original review of “Emily in Paris,” writer Kristen Lopez noted it’s “a beautiful series. …It’s a fairytale in the same way that ‘Sex and the City’ was, presenting Paris as a land of calorie-free croissants, a luxurious apartment in every tax bracket, and a sexually proficient man in every bed. Emily’s ideas are considered simultaneously shocking, laughable, and gauche, an example of the culture clash between Americans and the French. She condemns workplace romances, l’horreur! She uses Instagram, choquante!”

Seriously, if you’ve never watched the show you can’t fully appreciate how much talk of Instagram there is.

Part 2 will premiere on September 12. Grab an aperol spritz and watch the trailer for “Emily in Paris” Season 4 Part 2 below.
