Emmys 2024 Poll: Who Should Win for Lead Actress in a Drama Series?
This year’s Emmy nominees for Lead Actress in a Drama include some very familiar faces to TV fans, but none of them have won in this particular category… not yet, anyway.
All six nominees from last year are out of the running this year — Succession’s Sarah Snook took home the prize, if you remember — leaving us with a fresh set of six nominees. And the leading contender might be the freshest of all, in fact: Anna Sawai, who wowed us with a powerful turn as Lady Mariko in FX’s Japanese epic Shōgun and earned her first career Emmy nod in the process. Also receiving her first Emmy nomination for acting is Maya Erskine for her work as killer spy Jane in Prime Video’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith, although she previously nabbed a few nominations for her writing and producing on the Hulu comedy PEN15.

The Morning Show co-stars Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon are both in the mix as well for playing Alex and Bradley in Season 3 of Apple TV+’s scandalous TV exposé, with both scoring their second nominations for these roles. (Aniston won an Emmy for Friends in 2002, with Witherspoon winning as a producer of Big Little Lies in 2017.) Joining them are two more newcomers to the category: Carrie Coon, for playing social climber Bertha Russell on HBO’s The Gilded Age; and Imelda Staunton, for playing Queen Elizabeth II in the sixth and final season of Netflix’s The Crown.
A strong field of contenders, no doubt — but which one’s name would you be writing down on your Emmy ballot? Vote for your favorite in the poll below, and then hit the comments to defend your pick.
