Emmys 2024 Poll: What Should Win for Outstanding Drama Series?

A number of Emmy favorites are no longer in the running to win for Outstanding Drama Series — so will a newcomer take advantage of the clean slate to claim victory?

Of this year’s eight nominees, only one carries over from last year: Netflix’s royal drama The Crown, up for its sixth and final season. (That marks its sixth nomination in this category, with a win in 2021.) Previous category staples Succession — last year’s winner — and Better Call Saul have wrapped up and are out of the running, opening the door for a whole new roster of contenders… including four freshmen series.

FX’s samurai epic Shōgun is the early frontrunner to take home the big prize for its first season, leading all shows with 25 total nominations after a late switch from the limited series category. (Multiple future seasons are in development at FX.) Also earning a nod for their first seasons: Prime Video’s video game adaptation Fallout and spy reboot Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and Netflix’s mind-bending sci-fi series 3 Body Problem.

Joining them in the drama series mix are three veteran shows celebrating their first nominations in this category: HBO’s exquisite period drama The Gilded Age, for its sophomore run; and Apple TV+’s soapy TV news saga The Morning Show and British espionage tale Slow Horses, both for their third seasons.

So if it’s not The Crown clutching Emmy gold on Sunday, Sept. 15 on ABC, we’ll have a first-time winner in this category. But which show should reign supreme on Emmy night? Vote for your favorite in the poll below, then hit the comments to defend your pick.
