Emoji movie: James Corden, Ilana Glazer join EmojiMovie: Express Yourself
Ilana Glazer and James Corden are getting emotional.
Sony Pictures Animation has announced that the Late, Late Show host and the Broad City star will be joining T.J. Miller in the upcoming animated comedy EmojiMovie: Express Yourself.
Miller is already on board to play an emoji named Gene, who has a wide range of facial expressions, unlike other emojis living in the messaging app Textopolis. Desperate to be more like “normal” emojis, Gene sets out on an “app-venture” — yes, really — across the phone to find the code to fix him. He’s accompanied by his best friend Hi-5 (Corden), a hand-shaped emoji, and the code breaker Jailbreak (Glazer).
Sony also released a first-look image from the film, introducing Gene, Hi-5, and Jailbreak (as well as a peek at the familiar poop emoji).
“Hi-5 is a high-five emoji who is a highly motivated, and highly dramatic, hand on a mission (sorry), and the brilliantly versatile, ebullient, and always lovable James Corden fits this part like a glove (sorry again),” director Anthony Leondis said in a statement. “For the rebel ‘break all the codes’ computer programmer emoji Jailbreak, Ilana Glazer is the kind of singularly free-spirited, fearless, and funny actress to make girls really feel the empowered ‘nobody’s gonna keep me in a cage’ attitude this character exudes.”
This is the latest animated role for Corden, who’s lent his voice to the upcoming Trolls and will soon star in the live-action/computer-generated Peter Rabbit.
EmojiMovie: Express Yourself will hit theaters on Aug. 11, 2017.
