'Empire' kills off a big character, and fans are totally cool with it
It was a confrontation that Empire fans have been anticipating nearly a full season when Lucious Lyon’s suspicions about Shyne were finally confirmed.
In case you missed it, back in the Season 3 finale, Andre’s plan to murder his father was carried out by his co-conspirator, Shyne Johnson, played by rapper Xzibit. Until Wednesday’s episode, titled “A Lean and Hungry Look,” Shyne intended to take his involvement to the grave. That is, until Lucious found out and fooled him.
The tables were turned on Shyne when, after pretending to want Shyne’s help to kill Eddie Barker, Lucious told him, “I mean, somebody be standing right next to you after trying to kill you, and smiling in your face like nothing ain’t never happened.” He then asked, “How many chances have I given you to tell me the truth?”
In the end, Lucious had one of his guys shoot Shyne, and Empire fans were actually cool with his exit. In fact, before the big scene, one person tweeted:
RIP Shyne. I know you dying tonight #Empire pic.twitter.com/bsKarXxzcX

While others tweeted:

Fans were happy at the return of the old Lucious, who ruthlessly thought ahead when he put Shyne on one last track before taking him out, knowing it would be worth a lot of money after his demise. Yep, Shyne got played.
