'Empire' reveals what's in store for Jussie Smollett's last episode
On Wednesday night’s Empire, viewers finally got an idea of what’s in store for Jussie Smollett’s final episode of the show — and it looks like there’ll be wedding bells.
Smollett’s character, Jamal Lyon, announced to his family that he and Kai plan to get married as soon as possible, and Taraji P. Henson’s Cookie was ecstatic to start planning the event.
“Let’s toast to Jamal and Kai. We’re having a Lyon wedding, y’all,” she said.
In February, Empire’s producers released a statement that said Smollett would be written out of the show’s final two episodes after being accused of staging a hate crime in January.
“The events of the past few weeks have been incredibly emotional for all of us. Jussie has been an important member of our Empire family for the past five years and we care about him deeply. While these allegations are very disturbing, we are placing our trust in the legal system as the process plays out. We are also aware of the effects of this process on the cast and crew members who work on our show and to avoid further disruption on set, we have decided to remove the role of Jamal from the final two episodes of the season.”
Fans have been speculating what the fate of Jamal Lyon would be for the past few months.

I like the Tweethearts theory that it could be Kai in the casket since he’s marrying Jamal. But it’s someone that Lucious would want time alone with because he’s standing alone at the casket. 🤔🤔 #empire

Smollett continues to make headlines, despite being cleared of all 16 charges against him in March. Just this week, emails and text messages from Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx were released, revealing that Foxx called Smollett a “washed-up celeb who lied to cops” and said that he was being charged too harshly.

Foxx also compared the Smollett case to the charges being brought against R. Kelly.
“Pedophile with 4 victims 10 counts,” Foxx wrote. “Washed-up celeb who lied to cops, 16. On a case eligible for deferred prosecution I think it’s indicative of something we should be looking at generally. Just because we can charge something doesn’t mean we should.”
While controversy continues to follow Smollett, fans of his character are excited for Jamal and Kai’s wedding next week, which will likely be Smollett’s final episode.
