The Equalizer is multiplying. The CBS procedural, which stars Queen Latifah as former CIA operative Robyn McCall, will introduce a pair of new characters later this season that could potentially lead their own spinoff series, our sister site Deadline reports.

One character, an older male, is reportedly a former CIA operative. The other character, a younger female, is a martial artist with a vast knowledge of weapons and criminology — and a “secret origin story.”

Casting is currently underway for those characters, both of whom are expected to appear as guest stars in Episode 16 of the show’s current fifth season, airing sometime in 2025. The report indicates that the episode is not being treated as an official backdoor pilot.

The Equalizer currently stars Latifah as Robyn, Tory Kittles as NYPD detective Marcus Dante, Adam Goldberg as master hacker Harry Keshegian, Liza Lapira as Robyn’s pal Mel Bayani, Laya DeLeon Hayes as Robyn’s daughter Delilah, and Lorraine Toussaint as Robyn’s Aunt Viola.

This makes The Equalizer the third recent CBS series to develop a spinoff. Sheriff Country, the Morena Baccarin-led offshoot of Fire Country, was ordered to series earlier this year, while The Neighborhood led to Tracy Morgan’s Paramount+ comedy Crutch. (And that’s to say nothing of the NCIS‘s and FBI‘s. CBS loves a franchise.)
