Eric Bellinger stars in premiere episode of REVOLT’s new game show “Receipts”
Rich culture encompasses music, food, fashion, language, and so much more. And while culture is what often unites us, it’s our experiences and passions that make us all unique. With such a sentiment in mind, REVOLT and Walmart have partnered to create a new series that highlights and celebrates the talents of Black consumers. Having premiered on May 9, “Receipts” is a digital game show that draws inspiration from Black and Unlimited — Walmart’s platform that celebrates the far-reaching potential of Black people excelling no matter what interests we pursue.
The series premiere was anchored by comedian and actor Desi Banks, the Atlanta, GA native who got his start by posting hilarious skits to Vine and Instagram featuring characters we’ve come to know and love today like Lil Johnny and Parlay Homeboy. In recent years, the millions of views and followers that Banks has amassed online have translated into a growing fan base that’s come out in droves to watch him perform on stand-up and improv stages across the country.
The first episode sees Banks drop by the “Receipts” studio between tour stops to host the series while facing off against a celebrity competitor to guess the unexpected talent of a Black Walmart shopper. The game hinges on the idea that a story can be found between the lines of a seemingly ordinary receipt. Taking account of what’s on it can uncover something essential to a person, and in this case, the show’s celebrity contestants will use the receipt as a guide in their efforts to discover the secret passion of the featured customer.
“Receipts” gets off to a strong start with the one and only Grammy-winning singer, producer, and songwriter Eric Bellinger as Banks’ first challenger. Known for his smooth R&B sound and romantic lyrics, the crooner got his start in music as a songwriter and penned tracks for an array of stars like Usher, Chris Brown, Justin Bieber and more. At the top of 2023, Bellinger released 1(800)HIT-EAZY: Line 2, the highly anticipated follow-up to his 2021 collaborative project with superproducer Hitmaka.
From the episode’s opening moments, it’s clear that he is the perfect person to give Banks a run for his money. After a little intro, the game gets underway as the pair competes in multiple rounds to unveil as many items from the shopper Sierra “Sici” Taylor’s receipt as possible. In the first round, Taylor and Bellinger appear to have a natural rapport that helps him jump out to an early lead. However, as the game continues, Banks begins hitting his stride, putting points on the board and closing the gap with Bellinger quickly. With each new item they revealed, the celeb contestants got a bit closer to uncovering the shopper’s hidden talent — one that she admitted has major shock value. Based on the results of the game, she most definitely wasn’t lying.
