Eugene and Dan Levy to Host the 2024 Emmy Awards Father-Son Gig
In case you haven’t heard, Schitt’s Creek alums Eugene and Dan Levy are set to host the 76th Emmy Awards, which will take place on Sunday, September 15.
The father-son duo starred in the sitcom as a father and son, and won hearts along the way. At the 2020 Emmy Awards – which took place remotely due to the COVID-19 pandemic – both stars took home awards and the show itself won the coveted Outstanding Comedy Series trophy, and now they are set to host the show.
The hosting duo released a joint statement after the announcement was made, explaining, “For two Canadians who won our Emmys in a literal quarantine tent, the idea of being asked to host this year in an actual theater was incentive enough. We’re thrilled to be able to raise a glass to this extraordinary season of television and can’t wait to spend the evening with you all on Sept. 15.”
If you’re looking to get excited about seeing the hosting duo, take a look back at their past hilarious and heartfelt moments that will hold you over until then.
Dan and Eugene Levy equally admire each other
In an interview back in 2021, Dan explained what it is like to work with his father and what he has learned from the experienced actor.
“You have to really respect the person you're working with and I think when you do, it makes for a very easy go of things,” he said. “I have so long admired what my dad had done and … I think he really let me have space to find my own footing.
Eugene feels similarly about working with his son, as well as his daughter, Sarah Levy. The actor explained how happy he was to work with his children on the set of Schitt’s Creek.
“As a dad, getting to work on camera for six years with both my kids, Daniel and Sarah, I had such a joy. I love you both and could not be prouder.”
Eugene Levy talks about his son’s acting skills
Not only does Eugene enjoy working with his son, but he also admires the kind of characters Dan is able to create on the screen. Eugene explained in an interview how talented his son is at leaning into a character and bringing them to life.
“I think his success is that he’s always found the heartbeat of whatever character he has chosen to play,” the American Pie actor explained. “A lot of people overlook the value of that — the warmth of a character, the empathy that you extract from them. All of his work is tied together by his ability to find that. I think that’s why he gets hired to do these parts that are not necessarily the largest role but offer warmth to a kind of comedic project that needs it.”
When Dan Levy had to explain a new term to his dad
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Dan hilariously explained what the word “bae” means to his father, who was pronouncing it incorrectly. Eugene started by pronouncing the word as “bye” rather than how it sounds (bay is how it sounds).
Dan cut in, trying to hold back laughter, saying, “Pronounced bae (bye), it is a term of endearment that people use to talk about people they have crushes on, people that they like, people that they love.”
The father-son duo also tried to explain other words that are used by young people, including “lit” and “tbh.”
