Eugene and Dan Levy Set as 2024 Emmy Hosts

ABC will indeed outsource hosting duties of the Emmys this year, tapping the father-son duo of Eugene and Dan Levy to emcee the Sept. 15 telecast.

The Levys, who enjoyed a particularly fruitful Emmys in 2020 when Schitt’s Creek won every major comedy category in an unprecedented sweep, are an unconventional choice in that neither currently appears on a Disney property. But their opening of the 2020 Screen Actors Guild Awards proved they are well up to the task — and after a protracted negotiation, they’re now set to take the stage at the Peacock Theater at L.A. LIVE.

The question of who will host the Emmys is an increasingly muddy question. For decades, the duties typically went to whatever funny woman or man was bubbling up on whatever network had the broadcasting rights. But as the four networks who make up the “wheel” of the rotating telecast have slimmer comedy offerings, the hosting news has come later and later on the calendar.

Jimmy Kimmel was the obvious initial choice. The ABC star, whose Jimmy Kimmel Live! is again nominated for outstanding talk series, hosted the last three times his network had the show. But he took a pass this year, as he did on the 2025 ABC Oscars ceremony. “Jimmy is always our first ask,” Dana Walden, co-chair of Disney Entertainment, told The Hollywood Reporter in July. “He’s always our first choice in terms of partners. He represents our company so well, and he’s done such remarkable work… but hosting a daily show is a lot of work.”

Euegene, a nominee himself for Apple TV+ series The Reluctant Traveler, and Dan now step into a telecast that’s just a month away. Jesse Collins, Dionne Harmon and Jeannae Rouzan-Clay of Jesse Collins Entertainment will again executive produce the show, one that sees Shogun, The Bear and True Detective: Night Country as the leaders in the three main fields.

In spite of the mostly altered playing field, viewers may have some déjà vu when they tune into the show. The 2023 Emmys were held just nine months ago, significantly delayed by both the WGA strike and the SAG-AFTRA strike.

Those who are up for second helpings can tune in Sunday, Sept. 15 at 8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT on ABC.
