Despite stealing the screen in many of her movies, from Hitch to The Other Guys, Eva Mendes took a step away from acting in 2012 after her movie, The Place Beyond the Pines. Looking back at the decision now, Mendes, who met her longtime partner Ryan Gosling in Pines, is pretty happy with how it all went down. After all, that’s when their love story really began.

“I left at a time where, 10 years ago, I kind of felt like I did it, you know?” Gosling reflected in Good Morning America, per Us Weekly. “I just worked with Ryan Gosling. He’s, like, the best. It was such a high of my career to work with him and what we created together that I was like, this is a good time to Seinfeld it and just walk out.” How adorable is that?

In other words, in addition to nodding to her love for Gosling, it showed how appreciative she is about getting to work with him too. It’s as if to Mendes, working with Gosling was as good as it gets in acting. Hopefully, it’s the same with their marriage too!

With that said, Mendes isn’t closing off acting for good just yet. “I don’t know,” she said when asked if she’d act again. “If there’s interesting roles.”

Mendes, who is currently promoting her debut children’s book, Desi, Mami, and the Never-Ending Worries, also gave a sweet shoutout to Gosling The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Speaking to Fallon, the two laughed looking back on Gosling’s hilarious Saturday Night Live appearance earlier this year.

“With Cuban Papi, the thing that was so funny is my dad actually doesn’t speak English, and this isn’t like oh, he speaks a little. No, he doesn’t speak English and he’s been in the country 50-something years,” Mendes said of the “Can’t Tonight” sketch where Gosling played a man who had a Cuban accent after marrying a Cuban woman. “So when Ryan and him hang out, it’s very much like [that]. So after what, 12 years, it finally paid off.”
