Eve Reflects On Her Past As “The Laziest Stripper”
Eve is getting real about her time as a stripper.
Speaking on SiriusXM’s Sway In The Morning show, the Philadelphia rapper reflected on her beginnings in relationship to her recently-dropped memoir, Who’s That Girl. Within the tome, there is a chapter titled “The Laziest Stripper.”
“It was two months and I wasn’t that great,” she explained, adding that she was focused on her music. “But I was great at rapping though. So, I would get tipped for rapping.”
She continued to explain how men would approach her to inquire about lap dances and she would respond with a different idea.
“I’m like, ‘Let me rap for you. If you think I’m wack, I’ll give you a lap dance for free.’ And most of the time I wasn’t….guys would be like ‘Shorty, you crazy.'”
During an interview with PEOPLE Magzine earlier this month, the 45-year-old added more details to the fated time in her life when she met Ma$e and was able to fully transition from dancing to rapping after he advised her to focus on her craft.
“When MA$E became a pastor, I was like, ‘Yeah, that makes sense,’” she detailed. “He was my prophet that day. I needed that extra push.”
Her late teenage years as a dancer, her industry beginnings, lessons in life, and more are detailed in the aforementioned literary work Who’s That Girl. Written with Kathy Iandoli, the book was released on Tuesday (Sept. 17) and is available for purchase anywhere books are sold.
“There have been lots of ups and downs. [Writing] this book was a purge but it’s also about celebrating being in a good space now,” she elaborates to The Times. “I feel like I can talk about the things that happened to me in a peripheral way because it all worked out.”
