Everything we know about season 3 of Wilmington-shot show 'The Summer I Turned Pretty'
On May 14, fans of Wilmington-shot Amazon/Prime Video drama "The Summer I Turned Pretty" got the news they'd been waiting for about the show's upcoming third season.
In a video posted to SITP's X and Instagram accounts, star Lola Tung takes a break from bumping a volleyball on the beach with co-stars Gavin Casalegno and Sean Kaufman to announce, "See you summer 2025!"
That probably wasn't as soon as fans had hoped, given that season two aired last year. Still, given production delays due to last year's since-resolved actors' and writers' strikes, it was probably inevitable.
An exact air date for the show's third season hasn't been announced. But, since the show, which started shooting here in March, will wrap this summer, optimists can hope for a May or perhaps even an April air date in 2025. Season one premiered in June of 2022, and season two came out in July of '23.

One Pretty Creek? Why hosting massively popular teen dramas is in Wilmington's DNA
What's the show about?
For you SITP newbies out there, the show stars Lola Tung as Belly, a teenage girl torn between two hunky brothers (Gavin Casalegno and Christopher Briney) on "Cousins Beach," which is in Massachusetts in the show. The series follows Belly's ups and downs in both love and her family life.
It's based on the best-selling book trilogy from Jenny Han, who, with Sarah Kucserka, is also SITP's showrunner and, with Kucserka, Karen Rosenfelt, Hope Hartman, Mads Hansen and Paul Lee, an executive producer.
According to Amazon, Han will also direct an episode of SITP for the first time in season three. SITP is co-produced by Amazon Studios and wiip studios.
How popular is it?
It's incredibly popular. For starters, a video announcement for season three on Prime Video's YouTube page has more than 850,000 views.
According to Amazon, "the Prime Video drama has been a breakout success, performing particularly well with young women viewers. Season two of 'The Summer I Turned Pretty'is one of the 10 most-watched seasons of any series ever on the service."
The show's second season "more than doubled" the first season's viewership within three days of its premiere last year. If anything the show's popularity could be ascending, setting it up for a juggernaut of a third season.
How many episodes will season 3 have?
In what is likely a testament to its popularity, the show's third season will have 11 episodes, up from seven in season one and eight in season two.
Because seasons one and two roughly followed books one and two in Han's series, season three will likely follow the third book in the series, "We’ll Always Have Summer."
Have the show's stars been spotted out and about?

They have.
Among many other sightings, Lola Tung and Sean Kaufman took a pic with a fan at the Edge of Urge boutique downtown in March, and a pic of Tung from May 13 shows her picking strawberries at Lewis Farms off Gordon Road.
What area locations is the show using?
According to film permits filed with the city of Wilmington, between now and early June the show is scheduled to shoot at St. James Episcopal Church and Circa 1922 restaurant downtown, the Goody Goody Omelet House on Market Street, Little Loaf Bakery on Wrightsville Avenue and Pier 33 apartments.
The show has shot at locations including: the New Hanover County Arboretum, David's Bridal and Michael's in the Mayfaire shopping center, Cape Fear Community College's Union Station, the New Hanover County Library's main branch and Bespoke coffee shop downtown, Benny's Big Time Pizzeria, Legion Stadium, Dunton Cine Studios, Grace United Methodist Church on North Front Street, the UnderFront bar downtown, the former TRU Colors brewery on Greenfield Street, Cape Fear Country Club, Summer Rest Road, Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway near Kornegay Avenue, and several locations on Chestnut and Princess streets.
When does shooting wrap?
No official date has been announced but given that most episodes take at least a week and a half to shoot, a July or August wrap for season three seems likely.
Will this be the last season?
It's believed that this will be the third and final season of "The Summer I Turned Pretty." But the show's producers have hinted there may be spinoffs, although whether they'd shoot in the Wilmington area even if greenlit is unknown.
