Jeff Bridges, who starred in Tron: Legacy (2010) and the original film Tron (1982), will return for the third installment in the franchise.

Who else is behind Tron: Ares?

Joachim R?nning directed the threequel film, as Deadline first exclusively reported with the project’s early development.

“It’s been fantastic for my next endeavor to be a science fiction movie that takes place inside a computer,” R?nning told Deadline. “It’s my dream as a filmmaker to be able to move between such vastly different stories.”

R?nning promises a more emotional story in this latest Tron installment.

“Emotions will always be something that I strive for, and this film will be more emotional, something I don’t think the franchise has had as much in previous Tron movies,” he said. “Both of them are, in many ways, masterpieces, but what I’m trying to do is create an emotional experience so that’s always going to be front and center. I think that that’s something that I managed to do with this film.”

The originally one-man group formed by Reznor in the late 1980’s has seen a rotation of partners, most recently frequent collaborator Atticus Ross. The pair are responsible for the score of Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers, and they have also worked on The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Social Network and Mank with David Fincher. The pair also recently contributed to Season 3 of The Bear. Daft Punk contributed the score of Tron: Legacy (2010).
