A reimagining of the popular ‘90s kids show will be among the nine original series debuting on Apple’s new subscription service (with more rolling out every month).
The reboot puts a completely different spin on the original premise. Here’s what you need to know about Ghostwriter on Apple TV+:
When does Ghostwriter premiere?
On Nov. 1, the day that the Apple TV+ streaming service launches. The subscription costs $4.99 a month, though customers who purchase a new Apple device can get a free year.
What’s Ghostwriter about?
Apple’s official synopsis says, “When a ghost haunts a neighborhood bookstore and starts releasing fictional characters into the real world, four kids must team up to solve an exciting mystery surrounding the ghost’s unfinished business. Each episode story arc is grouped around literature, featuring classics and new works commissioned from popular authors like DJ Machale and Kwame Alexander.”
The new version sounds a bit like the Night at the Museum movies; the characters come to life and the kid detectives figure out how to put them back.
Who is in it?
The four kids are played by Amadi Chapata, Justin Sanchez, Isaac Arellanes and Hannah Levinson. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. actor Brett Dalton is one of the adults who makes an appearance.
What else is there to know?
The original series, which ran from 1992 to 1995 on PBS, followed a group of Brooklyn kids who solved neighborhood mysteries with the help of an invisible spirit. Ghostwriter communicated by manipulating nearby text to form words and sentences. The show was designed to teach reading and writing skills.
The reboot seems to take a different angle. While still promoting reading, it seems more focused on getting kids interested in literary and historical figures.
