Everything we know about Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth's split so far

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have split — and it’s not playing out quietly behind closed doors.

A rep for Cyrus confirmed the end of their marriage on Saturday — hours after PDA photos of Cyrus kissing Kaitlynn Carter surfaced. Cyrus, who identifies as pansexual, is on vacation in Italy with Carter, who announced her own split from The Hills star Brody Jenner a week ago.

Since then, Hemsworth broke his silence (once fake and once real) and Cyrus posted some not-so-cryptic social media posts — as well as clapped back at Brody Jenner’s reaction to his ex’s seemingly new romance. She’s also apparently inspired from this whole saga to make some music. Here’s the latest...

Aug. 14: Cyrus’s sister Brandi — who was along for the trip to Italy — addressed the split on her podcast with Wells Adams, Your Favorite Thing. “It's not my business to talk about and it's nothing anything of mine to tell," Brandi said. "There's nothing I can really say. I just, I'm here for her, obviously, and I've been spending a lot of time with her. When she's ready to talk about it or whatever, then she will."

Aug. 13: A Cyrus source tells People magazine she’s in no rush to get divorced.

Cyrus has moved into a “bachelorette pad” next door to the house she used to share with Hemsworth, Yahoo Australia reports.

Hemsworth breaks his silence — for real — about the split in a social media post. He confirms that they “recently separated” and says he wishes Cyrus “nothing but health and happiness going forward.” He then calls out the Daily Mail for claiming he gave one of their reporters an interview. He said he didn’t — and won’t be talking to any media outlets about the “private matter.”

Aug. 12: On the heels of Hemsworth’s fro-yo ambush, Miley shares a photo from the studio, suggesting her Italian getaway with Carter has ended.

Hemsworth — who has been radio silent about the breakup and Cyrus and Carter’s steamy vacation — is tracked by a Daily Mail reporter in Australia as he gets frozen yogurt in Byron Bay. “You don't understand what it's like,” he tells a reporter asking about the split. “I don't want to talk about it, mate.” According to the tabloid, he’s been staying with his brother Chris Hemsworth and his family.

Aug. 11: Cyrus and Carter continue their vacation with Carter posting tons of photos and videos to Instagram of a helicopter trip of the countryside. The song “Don’t worry, be happy” plays in one. In another, she’s panning around the beautiful scenery and says, “I can’t believe this is real life.”

Seemingly mocking Cyrus’s “Life’s a climb” posts, Jenner posts his own — also in front of a scenic backdrop. “Don’t let yesterday take up too much of today,” he wrote. His The Hills co-star Brandon Lee comments, “Let’s round this scandal out and post a pic of us making out” to which Jenner replies, “Watch out! Pics of Liam and I holding hands on the beach coming soon.” That gets Cyrus’s attention and a clap back. She comments, “@BrodyJenner go take a nap in your truck and cool off #HotGirlSummer.”

Jenner’s mother, Linda Thompson, supports her son on his post, writing, “Always so proud of your dignity, generosity, kindness & nobility. You are a gentleman and I love you very much. Onward...”

Cyrus breaks her social media silence in a series of posts. She talks about not fighting evolution “because you will never win.” Two others say, “New day. New adventure” and “Life’s a climb ... but the view is great.”

Cyrus, who spoke out in February about being “queer person ... in a hetero relationship” as well remaining “very sexually attracted to women,” is trashed on social media over the split with fans telling her she doesn’t “deserve him,” referring to The Hunger Games star.

Aug. 10: Through a spokesperson, Cyrus breaks the news that she and Hemsworth — who met on set of 2010’s The Last Song and married in December after a decade of on-and-off romance — have split. The statement said, “Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time. Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers. They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy.” Hemsworth doesn’t officially comment.

Cyrus posts several social media photos without her wedding band and engagement ring, leading fans to wonder what is going on.

Photos of Cyrus and Carter, a social media influencer, “packing on PDA” hit the internet. They were “cuddling, kissing and swimming at the Il Sereno hotel” on Lake Como, reported Entertainment Tonight with a source saying, "They were not trying to hide it at all.” Also, they stepped out for solo time. "They were fully on a date, getting drinks, just the two of them. They even got a couple of massages at the hotel."

Aug. 9: Cyrus and Carter go on vacation together in Italy. Their sexy bathing suit shots are commented upon by Jenner, who writes, “Hot Girl Summer.”

This isn’t their first trip — the women were also both at Stonehenge in July after Cyrus performed at Glastonbury.

Aug. 2: Carter and Jenner — the half-brother of Kylie and Kendall Jenner — confirm they have “decided to amicably separate" after five years together. While the pair — both featured on The Hills reboot — had a wedding ceremony in June 2018 in Bali, they never legally married.
