An Excellent 'Mandalorian' Fan Theory Says Mando Has to Remove His Helmet to Save Baby Yoda

It's easy to forget this, amidst all The Mandalorian's cameos, lightsabers (and darksabers!), and the end of the Baby Yoda naming contest, but Pedro Pascal's a real champ. I'm sure, when the actor signed up to play Din Djarin in the show, he must've imagined he's have a little more screen time outside of Mando's sweaty helmet.

But no. Aside from a brief, face-to-droid-face moment in Season One's finale, we've only seen Pascal's face once, with Mando holding true to the Mandalorian creed that makes helmet-wearing mandatory. But Pascal, a seasoned actor in his own right, can't stay hidden forever, right? Well, if Reddit's TheMediocreCritic (can we just call this user the GOAT of Star Wars-theorizing already?) is to be believed, we're about to see a lot more of Pascal going forward. If you caught The Mandalorian's most recent episode, you know that we probably have a rescue mission in our futures. Moff Gideon finally stole Baby Yoda away, which means that Mando's going to be infiltrating a sketchy Imperial lab sometime soon. The problem: Mando's armor is kinda recognizable at this point. Here's what The MediocreCritic has to say:

He wouldn’t even be able to get past the first set of guards wearing the beskar. The plot will demand that he cannot simply throw on a stormtrooper helmet. He will need to impersonate an officer or someone else who isn’t usually concealed in a helmet. He will break one of the most important tenets of his creed. Thematically this works. He must abandon his past and embrace his future.

It's a great theory: Aside from being entirely believable (pretty much everyone in Mando's corner of the galaxy seems to recognize him), Mando removing his helmet would legitimately represent how much his character has grown over the show's two seasons. You have him running around, playing good guy and foster parent. Removing his helmet, a relic of his past as a 9-5, do-the-job-and-go-home bounty hunter, would complete the journey. Plus, as TheMediocreCritic writes: More Pedro Pascal!

This is the climax the series has been building towards. All the choices, the changes he’s made lead to this moment. What is Mando willing to do for the ones he loves? Is he ready to shed his old identity, creed, and cult to save his foundling son? Of course, he is. He’s no longer a protector. He’s a father. This isn’t to say that Mando will not be wearing the helmet ever again, he would still want to hide his identity and protect his head, but we will see more of Pedro Pascal’s face in future seasons.

Hopefully our Reddit friend is right and we'll get to see what kind of giddy little face Mando makes when Baby Yoda Force-powers the silver ball around the ship. (Or... whatever the next ship will be. RIP. Sorry.)
