'Excited, a little nervous': Greenup native to perform at Rock The Country
Apr. 17—Little did Greenup County native Kyle Fields know when he got his first guitar he would eventually be the opening act for the likes of Kid Rock and Jason Aldean.
However, the 34-year-old singer-songwriter will perform this weekend at the Rock The Country in Boyd County. His performance will be at 3:45 p.m. Friday.
"I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that we are opening for Kid Rock," Fields stated on social media. "This is definitely the highlight of anything I've ever got to do musically and will be, by far, the most people I've ever performed in front of." His show will likely include originals as well as a couple of covers.
He said his grandmother gave him his first guitar when he was 12. "She was always real encouraging about music," he said, adding she even put him in costumes when he was a toddler and entered him in contests.
"When I was 3, she dressed me up like Elvis for the Little Mr. Greenup County," he said, adding he did not win. "When I was 2 or 3, she dressed me like Davy Crockett and I won."
He played many of the venues in the Tri-State before moving to Nashville to pursue his musical career when he was 21; he spent a couple of years working in Lexington before returning to Tennessee.
"Lexington has a good music scene, but I still think Nashville has a better music scene," he said.
While he listens to a wide variety of genres, he calls himself a 1990s country fan, gravitating toward Alan Jackson, George Strait and Travis Tritt, another performer he's looking forward to meeting.
"I'm extremely excited, but I'd be lying if I didn't say I was a little bit nervous," Fields said. "Overall, I'm really excited and blessed about this opportunity." He said he's especially eager to see Tritt, whom he has never seen perform live.
He's also excited to play such a high-profile show in his hometown region.
"I want to thank everyone up there in the Tri-State for their support over the years and I'm really grateful for the opportunity to come home and play," he said. "They played a big part in getting me recognition."
Fields's music — two albums and various singles — can be found on Amazon and Spotify; he will have physical copies to sell at the event and he can be reached via social media.
