EXCLUSIVE: Demi Moore Named Godmother of Cannes’ Trophée Chopard Prize
PARIS — Demi Moore will be making the most of her upcoming Cannes Film Festival experience. The actress and producer has been named godmother of the Trophée Chopard, which honors two emerging actors.
“She is perfect for this role, as she embodies what rising talents can strive for, with a constant reinvention through daring role choices she fearlessly embraced. Her long and diverse career epitomizes the Hollywood success story and I am sure that the laureates of the 24th Trophée Chopard will receive invaluable advice from their godmother,” said Chopard copresident and artistic director Caroline Scheufele.

The Chopard role means she’ll be doing triple duty as the star of the official competition entry “The Substance,” directed by Coralie Fargeat, as well as host of this year’s amfAR Gala.
Moore stars in the body horror film “The Substance,” alongside Dennis Quaid and Margaret Qualley, which will make its world premiere in Cannes. In her role as amfAR host, the activist and founder of the anti-child-abuse nonprofit Thorn will take to the stage at the annual AIDS research fundraiser alongside musical guest Cher.
The festival’s fortnight slate of splashy events will provide plenty of red carpet dressing and accessorizing opportunities for Moore, who is styled by Brad Goreski.
Moore will crown the honorees at the Trophée Chopard dinner May 17 at the Carlton Beach. Chopard, an official partner of Cannes, hosts the dinner with festival president Iris Knobloch and general delegate Thierry Frémaux, which traditionally welcomes the jury and a bevy of other A-listers in town.
The two winners are chosen by the Académie du Trophée Chopard, composed of past honorees and previous editions’ godmothers and godfathers. She takes over from Natalie Portman, who awarded the prize to Naomi Ackie and Daryl McCormack last year. Julia Roberts, Jessica Chastain, Julianne Moore, Charlize Theron, Cate Blanchett, Robert de Niro and Sean Penn are among the roster of past godparents of the trophy.
“Barbie” director Greta Gerwig is the president of this year’s jury, which will award the coveted Palme d’Or. Chopard is also the maker of the iconic prize and all other trophies handed out at the closing ceremony May 25.
