Exclusive Interview: Nancy Lee Grahn Talks Alexis Becoming a Lawyer and Daytime Unites for ALS
Carly’s back at the Metro Court and Nina’s helming Crimson once again on General Hospital. But when is Alexis Davis going back to being a lawyer? Nancy Lee Grahn talked to Soap Hub about this possibility when we chatted with her about an upcoming star-studded fan event that she’s putting together to help end ALS.
The Verdict Is In
Nearly four years ago, Alexis lost her law license after her lies at a medical board hearing were exposed. She’s found a new career putting out The Invader, but her heart has always been in the courtroom. Alexis and Diane (Carolyn Hennesy) have recently had some conversations about the former getting her law license reinstated. More encouragement followed when Molly (Kristen Vaganos) read her mother a letter that revealed she’d be getting an official hearing on becoming a lawyer once more.
“I think it’s looking like that might happen,” Grahn tells Soap Hub. The actress did her own informal poll on social media and close to 2000 fans indicated strongly that they prefer to see Alexis in court as opposed to behind her desk at The Invader.
Question for #GH most loyal and discerning audience; Should Alexis get her law license back?

GH’s new head writer, Patrick Mulcahey, not only knows Alexis but also, Grahn’s attorney character Julia Wainwright, which she played for about eight years on Santa Barbara, the gone-but-never-forgotten NBC soap opera.
“The combination of [Santa Barbara creators] the Dobsons [Jerry and the late Bridget] and Patrick wrote the trajectory of Julia,” Grahn recalls. “He was behind Mason [Lane Davies] and Julia. It was so satisfying. I learned a lot about writing through Patrick.”
Mulcahey was on the GH writing team when Alexis was introduced to the show in 1996. The character was loaded with a dramatic backstory after it was revealed that Helena Cassadine (Constance Towers) had murdered Alexis’s mother. “When I heard he was [becoming GH’s head writer], I was thrilled,” Grahn says.
Nancy Lee Grahn is also pretty passionate about combating ALS. The show is currently telling a story with Gregory Harrison’s character Gregory, who is suffering from the condition. On Saturday, May 4, Grahn is assembling a cavalcade of soap stars who will appear at “Daytime Unites to End ALS” at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Glendale, Calif.
