Exclusive Video: ‘Dimebag’ Darrell Jokes Backstage About Godsmack’s Sully Erna in Never-Before-Seen Clip
Godsmack is one of many bands paying tribute to the memory of “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott on the 10th anniversary of the legendary guitarist’s death. The Boston group’s members were longtime associates of Dimebag’s, and that meant that they either shared a drink or a jam (or both) with him during the course of their friendship. Godsmack captured both those activities on its 2002 DVD Smack This!, which compiled five years’ worth of the band’s touring footage onstage and off.

It shows Dimebag blowing smoke into the camera and joking that he was teaching Godsmack singer Sully Erna how to make a home video while Sharon and Jack Osbourne hang out in the background. Dimebag, his brother, drummer Vinnie Paul, and bassist Rex Brown also join Godsmack onstage to perform Pantera’s “Walk” in Las Vegas.

“I miss Dime tremendously. He was an anomaly, an inspiration and simply the kindest-hearted friend I’ve ever known,” Erna tells Billboard. “He will never be forgotten! A senseless tragedy that gave heaven the opportunity to gain a legend.”
