Expert Reveals Why the Royal Family Was Tight-Lipped on Prince Archie’s Birthday & How Convenient

May 6 marked a very special day in the Sussex household. Prince Archie turned 5! Yup, in the fall we’ll have a royal kindergartener on our hands. But the day went by without much pomp and circumstance. We’re not terribly surprised that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle didn’t post a birthday tribute for their son the way Prince William and Kate Middleton always do for their kids. After all, the former senior royals don’t post many pictures of their son and daughter Princess Lilibet (as is evident from the baby photo above).

But we were sad — albeit not shocked — to see that Buckingham Palace didn’t acknowledge the milestone birthday. King Charles III and the rest of the royal family didn’t post sweet messages for the little guy. And there is supposedly an important (*eye roll*) reason for that.

Senior royals apparently only publicly mark the birthdays of fellow working members of the royal family.

Wow. How convenient. God forbid they break one of their “sacred” tradition. (As if they didn’t break a major fashion tradition with Prince Louis less than six months ago.) I don’t know about you, but this just feels to me like one more way the royal family can subtly snub Markle.

“In recent years and certainly since King Charles III’s reign began in September 2022, we have only seen public messages from the royal family’s social media accounts for working members of the royal family, such as the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, and the Princess Royal,” Hello‘s royal correspondent Danielle Stacey said.

She went on to point out that Prince Archie’s royal doppelganger and his parents don’t get a shout-out either … but come on … we all know that’s not the same thing.

We hope royal expert Tom Quinn was at least right when he told The Mirror that King Charles would likely call Prince Archie and send a small present.

“There has even been talk that he will send one of his own watercolor paintings to Archie as a present as Meghan loves homemade gifts and dislikes extravagant expensive presents,” Quinn said.

Because even if his dad has a turbulent relationship with his family, Prince Archie deserves some kind of acknowledgment from his grandfather on his big day. BS traditions be damned!

Even royal kiddos love to be read to! Here are some of their favorites.
