Here are the most extravagant gifts that Regina King, Rami Malek and other Oscar nominees will walk away with
It’s a big deal to be nominated for an Oscar.
For the rest of their life, anyone named a finalist for one of film’s top awards will be known as (deep voice), “Academy Award nominee so-and-so,” in movie trailers. Designers will offer to dress them for free. Best of all, it can lead to more jobs and heftier paychecks.
And in addition, the accolade comes with an impressive array of swag. While the Oscars did away with official goodie bags years ago, nominees in the high-profile categories of Best Actors and Supporting Actors, as well as Best Director, will receive an extravagant collection of products assembled by the marketing company Distinctive Assets, reportedly valued at more than $100,000. The bags were scheduled to be delivered to Regina King, Adam Driver, Emma Stone, Rami Malek and other nominees in the week before the ceremony.
Here are just some of the most extravagant things that A-listers will find inside their gift bags this year:
A luxury small-ship adventure
International Adventures is giving each star and a guest — because some people get lonely on even the most fabulous trips — the option of an excursion to Iceland, Costa Rica and Panama, the Amazon or the Galapagos Islands. The official gift description teases that recipients will be taken on celeb-only extensions to their trip, where they’ll enjoy private cooking classes, animal interactions and more. The value of the trip varies by destination, but it’s between $15,000 and $20,000 per person.
A session with a phobia relief expert
Kalliope Barlis is offering the top Oscar contenders an opportunity to overcome their irrational fears and bad memories. Barlis, the author of the books Phobia Relief: From Fear to Freedom and Play Golf Better Faster, who regularly appears on TV and radio, promises to help clients through education rather than therapy.
An annual membership to a cannabis-friendly social club
The nominee and three guests will have access to MOTA Los Angeles, where they can indulge in top-shelf events exclusively for members, including spa services, fine dining and much more, in a historic building in downtown L.A.
10 sessions with a celebrity personal trainer
Alexis Seletzky works out of private facilities in West Hollywood. She’s not only a trainer but — bonus! — a professional chef who also offers physical therapy.
A custom stained-glass portrait
Artist John Thoman, of JSJ Stained Glass, will create custom stained-glass portraits of the gift bag recipients, just as he has done in the past for Paul McCartney and the late John Lennon.
Poolside dinner prepared by a celebrity chef
The folks at real estate firm Nest Seekers International are sending each of the top nominees a complementary dining experience at one of their ultraluxury listings. They can check out some potential new digs and enjoy a gourmet meal all at once.
A week for two at a luxury wellness retreat
For a week, the nominee and a guest will soak up the nature and relaxation at the Golden Door, a destination spa outside San Diego. No less than Susan Sarandon — an Oscar winner herself for 1995’s Dead Man Walking, who was nominated four times before that — recommends the recharging spot, which offers daily hikes, personal training sessions, in-room massages, skin wraps, gourmet meals and other premium amenities. A fully inclusive, seven-night stay retails for $9,650, plus tips.
A custom fragrance
While the nominees already smell of success, thanks to Scenterprises, they’ll smell even better! Their swag bags feature perfume, as well as an invite to the Scentarium in New York City, where they can create their own signature fragrance.
