Fall youth art programs continue at Headwaters Music and Arts
Oct. 14—BEMIDJI — Headwaters Music and Arts will offer several weekly art programs for youth from October through May at Headwaters, 519 Minnesota Ave. NW.
These programs will feature opportunities to explore art in a fun and supportive studio setting, a release said. The K-12 programs also fulfill at least two Minnesota academic standards in arts education.
For ages 2.5 through Pre-K, Headwaters will offer the class "Lil' Artist" at 10 a.m. on Thursdays through Dec. 7. No classes will be held on Oct. 19 and Nov. 23. This class will introduce Pre-K children to art basics by exploring elements such as color, texture, pattern, shapes and more, the release said. The registration fee is $50 for a child and their guardian and $75 for an additional child.
For grades K-2, Headwaters will host a "Young Artist Club" from 4 to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays through May 7. This year-long club will introduce participants to formal, large-group art instruction through various art forms. The cost to attend is $500 for the entire program.
For grades K-5, participants can enroll in "My Kid-n-Me Pottery" from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Thursdays through Nov. 16, with no class on Oct. 19. This six-session course for an adult-child team teaches skills like joining, forming a shape and adding textures. The registration fee is $150 per adult-child pair, with $75 extra for an additional child or adult. The cost of glazing and firing is included.
For grades 3 — 6, Headwaters is set to offer "Headwaters Art Club" from 4-5:30 p.m. on Thursdays. Participants will practice age-appropriate art techniques in an informal setting with supportive and high-quality instruction and mentorship, the release said. The cost is $550 per person for the entire program.
For grades 2-12, Headwaters will host two sessions of "Pottery for All Skill Levels" from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Mondays, and 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. Both classes will run through May. Students will practice using coil, slab, and pinch methods, learn paint and glaze techniques and receive an introduction to wheel throwing, the release said. The cost will be $600 per student for the entire program.
Space is limited in these classes, with registration on a first-come, first-served basis. Headwaters offers several scholarship and grant options for all of its youth programming to ensure accessibility for all. If space is available for additional students after the first class date, the program fee will be adjusted.
