‘Family Guy’ Pays Tribute To Carrie Fisher With Heartfelt Eulogy

Deadline

On Sunday night, Family Guy made a thoughtful and emotional tribute to the late Carrie Fisher — but still managed to balance it with its on-brand humor.

In the episode, Peter makes a eulogy at Angela’s (voiced by Fisher) funeral that started off with an out-of-context definition of the word “class” and an offering of classic TV show theme songs including The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Friends, Cheers and, oddly enough, the wordless theme to Sanford and Son.

Peter switched gears and said some touching words about his former boss who died from swimming less than 20 minutes after she had eaten. “That was Angela — fearless, spontaneous, honest about herself just as much as she was about the world around her,” he said. “She had grace, courage and an unmated zest for life. She may be gone, but her voice will live on in DVD and Hulu Plus and tiny droid-projected messages. I may have lost a boss, but heaven has gained a princess.” After delivering his tearful eulogy he realizes he is surrounded by Asians and is at the wrong funeral.

The tribute was a pleasant surprise for Family Guy, which is known for its lowbrow humor.

In January 2017, Family Guy dedicated its winter premiere to the legendary actress and writer. Fisher, who died in December 2016, first voiced Angela in 2005 and went on to voice her in 25 more episodes of the Fox animated series.
