Fans Can't Get Enough of 'Wholesome' Update for 'Supermarket Sweep' Contestants Who Went Viral Decades Later
Thanks to the internet, a couple who appeared on the show Supermarket Sweep decades ago are getting renewed attention as they go viral, and they finally shared a sweet update that fans loved.
In 1991, Tim Leach and Mark Dammann were on the popular game show, introducing themselves as "business partners," but a fan who rewatched old episodes didn't quite believe the two.
"I love watching old episodes of Supermarket Sweep because these two just said they’re 'business partners' who 'design sets for plays' and I’m like oh I’m sure," wrote the fan, adding, "The host asked them what’s the weirdest set they’ve been asked to design and their whole lives flashed before their eyes trying to come up with a heterosexual answer."
Quickly, other fans were obsessed, with comments like, "I’d pay good money for a ‘Where Are They Now?’ doc," and "Yeah that show had a lot of 'roommates' and 'business partners' on it. ??."
Thankfully, the original poster had an update from the two men, sharing a photo of the two as a couple recently, with Leach saying, "Here we are! Just celebrated our 41st anniversary. Married in 2008 on our 25th anniversary as soon as it was legal in California. We ran a business together designing and painting backdrops and sets for 27 years."
The update came through Facebook after the couple went viral. Fans appreciated the happy news of where the contestants are now, with one writing, "omg this is so wholesome!"
"I've had a pretty rough evening and this has cheered me up so much. Hooray for love! ??," said another.
The couple also spoke with People after the surprise attention, with Leach saying, "A lot has changed since we were on that show as far as gay couples and being on TV and things like that. So it's not surprising that people have some interest in that and it’s been kind of fun, actually.”
“We were just really moved that that many people had so many positive comments to make and we're moved and touched by the story," he added.
Leach also shared why they ended up on the game show in the first place, revealing that they just thought it "would be kind of a fun way to make some money."
