Fans Celebrate Daniel Radcliffe Getting 'Recognition He Deserves' With 'Incredible' Tony Win
Daniel Radcliffe is officially, finally, a Tony Award-winning actor!
The beloved performer—who was in attendance with longtime partner Erin Darke—took home the award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical for his turn as Charley Kringas in last year's revival of Merrily We Roll Along at the 77th Annual Tony Awards at New York City's Lincoln Center.
“I’m going to talk fast and try not to cry," the 34-year-old said while accepting his award.
Despite reaching massive success in the Harry Potter films, he called his time in the musical one of the best experiences of his life, while highlighting the friendships he made along the way.

"I don't even have to act in this show," he said, adding, "I will never have it this good again."
"I will miss it so much," he noted of sharing the stage with co-stars Jonathan Groff and Lindsay Mendez, who were both holding back tears in the audience. The trio took to the stage earlier in the evening to perform Old Friends.
This is Radcliffe's first-ever nomination (and win), despite easily being considered a Broadway vet these days. He made his debut on the Great White Way as Alan Strang in the 2008 revival of Equus, before making waves as J. Pierrepont Finch in the 2011 revival of the musical How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. He was also featured in the 2014 play The Cripple of Inishmaan and the 2018 play The Lifespan of a Fact, three of which earned him a Drama Desk nomination—in addition to Merrily—and two of which earned him Drama League nominations—again, in addition to Merrily.
His roles in the musicals also earned him nominations at the Outer Critics Circle Awards, though, until now, his only theater wins came from the Broadway Audience Awards—which he's won several of for his work in Equus, How to Succeed, and Merrily.
Fans took to the internet to immediately offer up their applause, with one sharing a video from the play and stating, "This is why. BRAVO DAN!!!"
"I AM CRYING!!!!" another user noted, as a third echoed, "I’M NOT CRYING, YOU’RE CRYING. I love @MerrilyOnBway so much. The friendship between Daniel, Lindsey and Jonathon is so evident in their chemistry on stage. Daniel Radcliffe is an icon. SO happy for him."
Someone else championed, "Daniel Radcliffe getting the recognition he deserves will always feel incredible. Such an astute, talented & grounded performer/actor who deserves every bit of good that comes his way!"
Anyone interested in catching his award-winning performance has just a few weeks left, as the musical is closing up shop on Sunday, July 7.
