Fans Echo Jason Kelce’s Surprise as He Learns a New Word
Jason Kelce's vocabulary is expanding thanks to the New Heights podcast, and it looks like he's not the only one learning from the team.
On Wednesday, the official X (formerly Twitter) account for the podcast he co-hosts with his younger brother, Travis Kelce, shared a promotional clip from the first episode of Season 3, which premiered on Aug. 28.
In it, Jason was telling the Kansas City Chiefs tight end about an experience he shared with his wife, Kylie, while they were overseas spectating the women's gymnastics competition during the 2024 Summer Games in Paris. The former NFL star began the story by explaining that on this particular day, Kylie was feeling a little homesick and missing the couple's daughters, which he believes is part of why she was able to spot a baby in a crowded arena.
After Kylie pointed out the "adorable baby," Jason turned around to get a look, only to be flabbergasted by who he saw holding the infant. "It's f---ing Michael Phelps holding his child."
"If you see Michael Phelps," Jason continued, "you don't say someone is holding a baby."
Commiserating with the host, the podcast's social team lovingly poked fun at the doting mom, writing, "Kylie really buried the lede on this one."
The short commentary is what unraveled this whole vocabulary lesson for the former Philadelphia Eagles center and his "92 percenters."
"Welp I just found out Lede is a word," the 36-year-old revealed in his reply.
"I think we all did," one X user admitted. "Props to the podcast editor."
"So we all assumed it was a typo," another fan joked, citing the countless replies from viewers who all seemed convinced the tweet should have read "lead," as in to cause a person to go with one instead of the correct spelling of the word defined as the opening sentence of a news article that summarizes the main points of the piece.
"It's not lead?" a third added in confusion.
"Thanks for teaching me a new word to add to my vocabulary!" someone else cheered. "Now to go look it up."
The official New Heights account was pretty pleased with the reactions to its now-viral post, telling Jason: "My parents are gonna be so proud of me for this."
