As Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce continue flying high in their romance, many big names are sharing their thoughts on the relationship, with Jimmy Kimmel the latest.
The late night host took on the topic on his show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, commenting on Kelce's new NFL deal—which reportedly makes him the highest-paid tight end in the league—to say, “Can you imagine being in a relationship where you make $34 million and you’re still the broke boyfriend?”
Well, many fans weren't exactly thrilled by Kimmel's comment, accusing him of "downplaying" Kelce's accomplishment.
"What a way to minimize him just for money," wrote a fan in response to a post about the moment, while another said, "That is not nice. Dude ain’t broke. At all."
Someone else agreed with the latter fan but added, "It's not nice, but he has a point.. She's just incomparable with 1000 million."
Others felt like Swift wouldn't feel the same way as Kimmel, such as one who replied, "Nah even Taylor knows that getting a multimillion dollar salary is no chump change ??."
Despite some people angry at the joke, others seemed to enjoy it, with one comment reading, "Why are people mad I thought this was funny ??."
Fans also reacted to another mention of the couple in the speech as Kimmel mentioned Swift's chart-topping songs from her new album The Tortured Poets Department, noting that she's the first artist ever to have her songs take all the top 14 spots on Billboard's Hot 100 list.
But his next comment also drew ire from fans, with Kimmel saying, “She has 14 songs in the top 14 about how much people don’t like her.” Fans debated what he meant by the statement, wondering if Kimmel thought they were all breakup songs, before simply stating that the "joke didn’t land."
Swift's newest album was released on April 19—along with a surprise drop of 15 extra songs—and has found extreme success.
