Fans Mourn News That ‘Brilliant’ ‘SNL’ Star Won’t Be Back: ‘Heartbroken They Let Her Go’
Fans of Saturday Night Live were left flabbergasted on the evening of Monday, Sept. 9, when news broke that Chloe Troast, a fan-favorite rookie on the comedy sketch series, was not going to be returning for a second season.
Deadline broke the news in the late afternoon, with Troast confirming it for herself via a statement on Instagram later that night. "Unfortunately i was not asked back to SNL this season," she wrote. "I wish i was going back to be with all the amazing friends i made there, it truly felt like home. But it wasn't in the cards."
Supporters of the young comedian, who was also known to let out her powerhouse vocals in a variety of skits, like the beloved "Little Orphan Cassidy" segment with Timothée Chalamet and "Get That Boy Back" with Chris Stapleton, had difficulty processing the decision, with one joking that they were going to recite the "brilliant" orphan sketch in her honor.

Others agreed it was "one of [their] favorite SNL sketches in recent memory," crediting the former cast member's "insane facial and vocal range" and calling it both an "absolute travesty" and "big mistake. Huge" that "she wasn’t asked back!"
"You almost have to watch it multiple times to appreciate all the choices she’s making," they added. "It’s a shame she wasn’t asked back to join Season 50."
"This scene along [sic] should have given her a three year deal!" another declared. "Can’t believe they didn’t keep her."
"Wow. I’m heartbroken they let her go," the sadness continued, with another fan calling her "perfectly hilarious."
Friends and cast members also spoke out in the wake of the news, commenting their love for her on Troast's Instagram.
"Chloe the orphan with an incredible voice," Marcello Herna?ndez, who was promoted to the main cast this season, commented.
"You’re a genius and a star and the people love you," Molly Kearney, who is also departing this season, wrote.
"Bigger and Better things. I love you so so much and you were a big big light this year. Chloe supremacy, always ????," Chloe Fineman added.
"?????? love u ??????," Sarah Sherman said.
"Lifelong fan here along for the ride ??," Chance the Rapper replied.
The final consensus among fans was that it was "only the beginning" for the 27-year-old. "We can’t wait to watch you SOAR!!!!" one wrote, while another agreed that they "look forward to whatever comes next" for her.
