Fans and moviegoers cope with 'The Greatest Showman' Oscar snubs
Award-show season is in full swing, and the nominations were announced Tuesday morning for the granddaddy of them all, the Academy Awards, which will be held on March 4. It is with great sadness that we inform you The Greatest Showman received only one — albeit well-deserved — nomination.
Competing against Mudbound, Call Me by Your Name, Coco, and Marshall, The Greatest Showman is up for Best Original Song for the groundbreaking ballad “This Is Me.” The real tragedy is that Hugh Jackman is not nominated for his revolutionary performance — a performance that has brought in more than $200 million to the box office since its holiday premiere.
Having seen the movie a combined total of roughly 45 times, The Morning Breath co-hosts share in the heartbreak that the greatest musical of all time is being snubbed instead of receiving the boundless credit it deserves. Zendaya, Michelle Williams, Zac Efron, and Jackman may not appear onstage together as a full cast come March, but there is still a glimmer of Oscar excitement for Jackman.
His film Logan is in the running for an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay.
So, what will we be doing on March 4? Find us in the movie theater loudly and proudly harmonizing to “This Is Me.”
