Fans Say They’re ‘Not OK’ After Eddie Vedder Mashes Up Pearl Jam Classic With Taylor Swift Cover

Taylor Swift’s influence is far-reaching—from pop culture to politics, there are Swifties everywhere, including in one of the ‘90s most iconic bands.

Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder took to the stage this past weekend in Dana Point, Calif. for his annual Ohana Fest where, among two nights of performances from artists like Sting, Maren Morris, and Alanis Morissette, Vedder treated his fans to a mashup of a Pearl Jam classic and a Taylor Swift anthem during the encore, reports Rolling Stone.

Vedder’s daughter Harper, 16, accompanied her dad onstage, where he strummed an acoustic guitar and sang the first verse of “Last Kiss.” Harper soon joined in, but instead of continuing with the 1961 Wayne Cochran song that became a massive hit for Pearl Jam in 1999, she began to sing Swift’s “The Best Day.”

The song, which Swift wrote about her positive relationship with her family, was a fitting choice for the father-daughter duo, and when Harper got to the lyrics “I have an excellent father, his strength is making me stronger,” the audience responded with boisterous applause.

After footage of the performance was uploaded to social media, fans chimed in with words of encouragement and support, saying “this is adorable” and “I’m not ok??.”

Jill Vedder, Eddie’s wife and Harper’s mother, shared a photo of the two on her Instagram story with the caption “the noodle singing with papa ??” as well as a clip of them singing from her spot backstage at the concert.

In March, Eddie told MOJO Magazine about taking one of his daughters to a Swift concert, calling the camaraderie between the fans “galvanizing and powerful.” He continued, telling the UK outlet about making friendship bracelets with her before the show, calling the bracelet swaps at the concerts “acts of goodwill” between fans.
