Fans Say 'Nothing Is Right Here' After Seeing New Taylor Swift Wax Figure
A brand new wax figure of Taylor Swift was unveiled at Hamburg's Panoptikum, the oldest wax museum in Germany, on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2024, but she's looking a lot more like Taylor Smith—i.e., not Swift—in her debut photos.
The new figure appears to be modeled after Swift's appearance at the 2019 iHeartRadio Music Awards, where she posed on the red carpet in a predominantly purple romper covered in iridescent sequins—which also showed in shades of pink and purple depending on the light—that fans will certainly recognize.
For the event, she wore purple-blue winged eyeliner and a bright pink shade of lipstick, which the model also shares, though it seems to be rocking her current hairstyle, rather than the pink ponytail with artfully messy bangs left to frame her face that she wore at the time.
The wax figure also wears a pair of chandelier earrings that are shaped more similarly to Swift's 2023 Grammys accessories than they are the drop earrings she wore to the iHeart Awards.
However, the shape of the figure's face doesn't quite match up to the "Cruel Summer" singer's profile, not to mention the odd shape of her hands, holding up a heart using just her thumbs and index fingers with the rest of her fingers tented above, rather than the actual way she holds up a hand heart using all of her fingers curved into the correct shape.
Fans on Instagram, according to the app's translations, roasted the figure's appearance, with one suggesting that it looked like "Taylor Swift ordered from Wish."
"What did they do to Taylor ??," another wanted to know, while someone else mourned, "Wow nothing is right here ??."
Last summer, the same museum debuted a figure based on Ed Sheeran that left fans doing a double-take, too.
It definitely emulated his signature style, but close up, there was something off about the whole thing, leading one fan to respond, “There's a new Ed Sheeran wax figure in Germany and well......”
The museum reportedly takes up to two years to produce a new figure added to its collection, each of which costs an average of $44,750.
Despite fans' uncertain reactions, Sheeran seemed pleased with the replica, sharing selfies taken with the statue on Instagram. It's unclear at this time if Swift is aware of her latest iteration.
