Fear the Walking Dead midseason finale has biggest death yet

Fear the Walking Dead star Colman Domingo warned us that Sunday’s midseason finale would “change the course of the show forever.” He wasn’t kidding. Fear made its boldest — and riskiest — move in four seasons by killing off the show’s lead character.

We finally learned the fate of Madison Clark — who has been conspicuously missing in the present day storyline — in Sunday’s episode, and it was not good. We were informed via Alicia, Strand, and Luciana that Madison died during the Vultures’ zombie assault and that she had sacrificed herself by leading the walkers back into the stadium and then locking herself in so that the others could escape. The woman who would — and often did — do anything to protect her family died so her children and friends could live.

Also in the episode, where Morgan once failed in stopping Nick from killing out of hate, he succeeded in convincing Alicia to not murder Naomi, who we later learned was actually named June. Laura/Naomi/June was able to save John Dorie with the medical supplies from the stadium, although everyone is likely to have seriously elevated sodium levels due to all the ramen noodles they were slurping down. And the first half of season 4 ended with Althea cataloging Madison’s story on tape to go in her collection.

What stories will the show now pursue without Kim Dickens and her Madison? We’ll find out when Fear the Walking Dead returns this summer on AMC.
